Beautiful, bold and colourful tulips

I’m beginning to release a series of shorter inspirational loose watercolour classes to help you feel motivated and achieve a result you will love in just a short time.

In the first of my inspirational series of brief loose watercolour classes, I show you how to create a composition of pretty tulip flowers with just a few colours from your palette. You’ll be really pleased with what you can achieve by layering up simple shapes and washes.

What you’ll need:

Always remember, If you don’t have the equipment and paints I have, you can be really creative and use what you do have.

• I used a real life tulip flowers to work from as it’s a great way to see colour and form at its best. You can also download the PDF photo of the tulip flowers to refer to within the class area.
• Paper: 300gsm Arches (140lb) cold pressed watercolour paper or a sketchbook.
• My sheet size is: 27x38cm (11×15 inch)
• Brushes: Jennifer Rose size 3/0 and 0 mop brush. Link here: https://www.rosemaryandco.com/jennifer-rose-mop.
• Kitchen towel (to dab off any excess water) and to create shapes
• Water in a pot
• A scrap of paper to practice your colours with by your side.

  • Rose of Ultramarine – Daniel Smith
  • Permanent Rose- W&N
  • Pyrol scarlet – W&N
  • Phthalo Turquoise – W&N

  • Sap Green- W&N
  • French ultramarine Blue – W&N
